Self-destructing USB Flash Drive created by Fujitsu
Fujitsu is currently testing a prototype of their new USB drive that can significantly reduce the data theft from portable storage devices.
The secure USB flash drive houses a processor and a battery, allowing the user to program me the device for any of the following options:
- USB flash drive “self-destruct” - the memory drive will erase the data automatically after 24 hours or alternatively the drive can be set to wipe its contents if plugged into an unregistered computer
- USB flash drive “file redirect” - if the USB flash drive is used to copy files to an unauthorized workstation or server, this Fujitsu technology can prevent access to its data altogether (your files can not be uploaded to file-sharing networks, sent as e-mail attachments or printed)
Sounds a bit like Mission impossible? Well, this USB drive may not blow up in smoke but it has a lot of potential for all concerned with data safety, especially in the corporate world. The launch date is not yet known.
