Install Windows 7 using a USB Flash Drive

FlashDrive News

Creating a bootable USB key or USB flash drive for Vista and/or Windows 7 installation is quiet easy if you were lucky to find a simple how-to guide.

Here is one that will walk you through the steps to create a bootable USB flash drive for the purpose of installing a Vista or Windows 7 OS. The assumption is that you have a computer with Windows Vista installed.

Required hardware and software:

  • USB Flash Drive (4GB+)
  • Microsoft OS Disk (Vista / Windows 7)
  • A computer running Vista / Windows 7

Steps:

1. Format the USB Flash Drive
2. Make the USB Flash Drive Bootable
3. Copy the installation DVD to the USB Flash Drive
4. Set your BIOS to boot from USB Flash Drive

The good news is that any USB flash drive can be used as a bootable Windows 7 Install disc.

Once the Windows 7 Installation is completed you can simply restore your USB Flash Drive to the previous state and reclaim the 10GB of space by deleting the new volume created.

Follow the Step by step guide here.
